RE: Is Taxing Pop Really a Solution?
Have you just sipped or chugged down fat that could end up ruining your life?
No city or town today is without a McDonald's. It's even worse in the bigger cities like New York, which has one at every corner. But why is that? We all feel that every once and a while the need to relax and take the easy way. Fast food and most convenience foods do exactly that. Even though we fully know the unhealthiness of the food content, we simply don't try hard enough to make an effort of eating a balanced diet.
(There are 13,000-or-so McDonalds in the U.S. Shocking but true.)
So recently there has been scare campaigns to make people eat healthier. they are accompanied with restaurants giving healthier options and schools reducing or cutting out junk food altogether. I think that the measures taken are effective only to a certain extent, since America and Canada still having growing obesity rates. I actually really appreciate the efforts made to solve this problem, but if doesn't make me want to go out of my way to eat healthier. If I do chose to it's because I want to and not because that's my only option. here's a poster for those who feel that the choice of junk food is being taken away:
This is actually contradicting the shown video because it gives people a choice unlike the video which is telling everyone to just stop with junk food, in this case it is pop. The video was disgusting, and it grosses me out, but I'll still be drinking pop. And about the tax.,if it goes through in America, then it will definitely be coming to Canada. I'm not sure if it will go through though because President Obama seems like he's all about giving choices. Letting this tax go through would be taking those away. But let's just say it does go through, I wouldn't want to pay. Why should I have to pay to drink my favourite drink ever, rootbeer! But what will happen to all those companies that make junk food? What if no one buys because they don't want to pay the tax?
I love the idea of a healthy Canada, but at what costs will it be achieved?

RE: Hey Guess What! I Can See You...
As this was made by Google, I'm sure they had a lot of problems surrounding it. like the people who were caught on the footage and can be seen by the world. If they're complaining, I think they have every right to because it's their privacy. But then I think why they are being such babies. So what if you're shown, this new system solves way more problems than it creates. People can now have the benefits of a GPS without spending all the money, which is something everyone would like to have these days even with he economical crisis. The only problem would be the stalking that some people will be doing using this. But Google has outsmarted the wackos of society by blurring faces and licence plates. Anything really useful is being hidden so what's the point of being against such a great invention? And if you still think that you can see your face too clearly, then I suggest you contact Google. Wouldn't want any unexpected visitors now would we?

RE: Are They Kidding Me?
The commotion is surrounding the question: why were these ads run in the first place? The only reason is why these advertisements made it off the drawing board and out to the public was because the first and only priority was probably to sell the product. Then there's the issue of the message each one is delivering. To me, these ads suggest that society in North America is built upon leisure time and lenient issues such as fat intake and the decreasing of it. In comparison, today's ads give the public what they want: strong information, persuasion on issues and entertainment for fun. Here's an example of a product that convinces most to buy their product with a very entertaining advertisement through the means of a T.V commercial:
(It's the Cadbury eyebrows commercial! I think it's great because of the humor that the visuals bring the audience, and because it makes me want to buy Cadbury chocolate every time I see it. It's effective and completely not stupid like those other advertisement in previous media.)
Another side of those previous ads were that they made statements about gender roles at the time. By the looks of them, males were the dominant in every way possible, for example the Tipalet cigars say that if you smoke into a women's face with it, they'll follow you anywhere. This probably was untrue then as it is now, since having someone smoke in your face is disgusting. But today that fact is different. Women are as every much capable as men, and so they are their equals. I even think women have become dominant for certain things and have ads to show it.
The world of advertising is so interesting to analyze especially with advertisements as dumb as they used to be.

On the other side of the silver lining is the Axe Effect Campaign. A campaign which pretty much is telling men that if you use Axe, women will come running after you. It make me laugh when I think that some men actually rely on this stuff to have a social life with women. Then in makes me sick to see the women in the commercial at the feet of men because of a cologne. Women shouldn't have to be put in commercials in such a inappropriate fashion. But the bigger point is that why is it always women running after the man in these commercials? Why not the other way around? The stupidest thing is that both campaigns are under the same parent company. How can one be wholesome while the other is skimpy? The parent has responsibilities to have both agree on one message to relay to the public. I'd rather them have the same good or bad message then both because then the public wouldn't be confused and have intertwined them together. How can either message be given with the other a distraction next door?

RE: Photo Manipulation on Hiatus in the Media?
According to an article on the National Post's website, Beyonce, one of the spokespeople of Loreal, had her skin colour lightened for a. ad. so she would appeal to the majority of the mass (white being more favourable). This in my opinion is one of the worst thing industries in the media can do. they basically stripped Beyonce of her dignity. To me this is the equivalent of telling her to her face that she wasn't good enough becasue she's 'black'! How dare they is all I can ask!
This is an image of Jessica Alba that has been photshopped. You can see that in the after image, she has been elongated, thinned, and has had her skin brightend. Why would anyone want to change a woman so beautiful. But the most important beauty, is inner beauty, so what really is the point of photshoppig anyone?(Here's a link to an article about a magazine cover that Demi Moore did. At least some people can do photoshop well in enough to make it a little less obvious than sunlight: http://www.perthnow.com.au/entertainment/w-magazine-cover-of-demi-moore-worst-photoshop-ever/story-e6frg30c-1225800168786 )
So on the flipside, there are models who are saying no to being photshopped. Well I say to them: RIGHT ON! Society needs to see the real beauties, not just the ones that photoshop comes up with. Will this trend stick? I'm not so sure since trends when it comes to this industry only have such a long life. Hopefully it will last long enough for people to realize perfection is achieved with imperfection.
Glamour isn't for all, especially if it is false. But on the other hand, I love seeing magazines that are all glammed up. It lets me see and read about the things that aren't in my life. Sadly I know that much of this has been altered in one way or another. I think that magazines are smart because they know their audiences and give them most what they want, even if it isn't real.
Photoshop is grreat, but why bother changing images of God?
RE: The Changing Face of Video Games

Today games like the Wii Fit, which I own, is beneficial which has changed the perspective so many have about video games. But my question is what's wrong with that? What is wrong with a video game that helps the user? Nothing as far as I'm concerned. But you're probably thinking that they're just wolves merely in sheep clothing. Well I say you're wrong. Whether it's a video game that helps the user or not, it's the owner's choice when the purchase is made. Yes it's true that games like Wii Fit are bought more because they supposedly help with improving and maintaining health, but to me it's still a video game. It's just that these have something different to offer, just like everything else out there.
Video games, no matter what they have to offer have no harm in them. It just depends on the individual, whether they choose to play six hours a day or for a little a day. It's all about balance just like everything else.
